    Designing and Building with Unconventional Materials

    The bridges and buildings that surround us are usually constructed from well-established materials such as steel, concrete, bricks, and wood, but the palette of potential construction materials is much richer. In this presentation,Dr. Edward M. Segal, Assistant Professor of Engineering will present on recent design and research projects that he has worked on with students that utilize unconventional materials such as synthetic ropes for rapidly deployable footbridges and reclaimed acrylic and aluminum cast in cracked clay for architectural pavilions.
